MARION -- The Marion County Board of Commissioners approved a variety of appropriations and recognized May as National Foster Care Month with a proclamation at its meeting Tuesday.
Commissioners removed a change order that had been tabled at its April 24 meeting and approved another change order on McMahan Boulevard. Adjustment of contract quantities and corresponding costs per ODOT specifications were at a cost of $1,269.36, and to reimburse Miller Cable for the electric costs for the traffic signal and street lighting on McMahan Boulevard at a cost of $13,183.80, bringing the revised total contract not to exceed $1,707, 623.26.
The proclamation designating May as National Foster Care Month, states there are 48 children and youth in foster care in Marion County's 28 licensed foster care families. Scott and Felicia Luyster were present with their foster daughter, Breanna, 3. Felicia Luyster said they began their process to become foster parents in September 2005.
"We have been blessed to have Breanna as our first foster child," Felicia said. "Having her has changed a lifetime."
