To the Editor: May is National Foster Care Month, a time to come together and make a lasting difference in a child's life. In Fairfield County, there are over 200 children in the custody of Child Protective Services because their own families are in crisis and unable to provide for the essential well being. These children require save, stable and nurturing environments to live in until they can either safely reunite with their parents or establish other lifelong family relationships.
Across the county, state and country, people are helping youth in foster care build brighter futures by serving as foster parents, kinships caregivers, mentors, advocates, social workers and volunteers. But much more help is needed.
No matter how much time you have to give, you have the power to do something positive that will "Change a Lifetime" for a young person in foster care. For more information on how you can help, please contact Fairfield County Job and Family Services at (740) 653-4060. Someone is waiting for your call.
