Foster care thanks NCJW
Cleveland Jewish News, Dec. 7, 2011.
Over 1,000 Ohio youth "age out" of the foster care system every year, without being connected with a forever family. For these young people, holidays can be a harsh reminder of lost connections. Foster Care Alumni of America's Ohio chapter works with our partners to host Thanksgiving dinners for foster care teens and young adults each year.
We are grateful to the National Council of Jewish Women, Cleveland Section for their role in supporting the second annual Northeast Ohio Thanksgiving event for current and former foster youth.
This event captures the heart of what Thanksgiving is about; reminding those who have experienced foster care that they always have a seat at our table.
We want our young people to know that their voices, talents, insights and mutual encouragement are what lay at the heart of this celebration.
It is our privilege to stay in contact with them, as they enter into young adulthood and find their places in this world, moving beyond the shadows of their past to build bright futures and families of their own.
